Sports briefs: Clover High golf coach to lead All-Star team

Carolina Revolution tryouts Nov. 21

Carolina Revolution will hold open baseball tryouts Nov. 21 for spring season.

All players will be considered with a decision on-site after tryouts. If selected for the team, the deposit must be paid immediately to secure a spot in several events in the spring. Bring a general game schedule (season start/finish dates) for middle school baseball players.

Conditioning program runs December-January with indoor practice starting in February.

Carolina Revolution will travel to ESPN World Wide of sports next summer to compete against teams from around the country and world.

Clover’s Harper coaches in North-South golf

Lyn Harper, who has built the girls’ golf program at Clover High School, was selected to coach in the S.C. Athletic Association North-South All-Star Girls’ Golf Classic.

The event was Nov. 13-14 at Timberlake Country Club in Chapin.

Harper serves as head coach for the North team, which includes South Pointe High School standout Whitney Carter.

Golfers finish in end-of-year tourney

Lake Wylie golf teams participated in the Nov. 11 Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball One-Day Tournament of Champions at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

▪ West Course, Flight D: Harold Fisher and Tom Bookmiller, both of Lake Wylie, finished 34-36--70.

▪ East Course, Flight F: Lowell Lueking and Mike Shively, both of Lake Wylie, finished 41-40--81.

This end-of-year tournament was scheduled to be played over two days at Grandover Resort but Tuesday’s round was canceled due to rain. Players competed against other teams from the same course, with overall gross and overall net winners from each course – East and West.

Tournament format was 36 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net, reduced to 18 holes. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field was divided into flights based on total team course handicap: Flight A, Flight B; Flight C; Flight D played on the West Course; Flight E; Flight F and Flight G played on the East Course.
