The Lions will hold these other projects:
▪ Hearing program: Clover School District adults and children with financial need and potential hearing problems can find help thanks through a partnerships with Clover Area Assistance Center, Board Certified Hearing Specialist John Davis, the South Carolina Lions Charitable Services and hearing aid manufacturers. The process starts with Lion Pat Kirby screening an application to determine basic financial need. The applicant is then given a free hearing test by Lion John Davis at Sound Advice Hearing Center in Fort Mill. If hearing loss is discovered, the audiogram and application are sent to the South Carolina Lions Charitable Services for final financial screening and approval. With those qualifications met, SCLCS partners with manufacturers to procure hearing aids at cost. John Davis then charges a minimal amount for fitting and adjusting. If the applicant was referred by CAAC, that organization partners with the River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions, with each paying half the cost. The Lions fund six to eight patients. For more information, call 803-831-0266 or 803-547-5700.
▪ Foundation gifts: The Lions Community Foundation has launched its annual fundraising campaign on behalf of the 35 area and statewide charities that count on the Lions for assistance. Gifts donated to the foundation are invested with other gifts, and only the income earned from those investments is used to support the charities. As a result individuals and organizations who support the foundation are creating a legacy of giving that will last as long as the foundation exists. Since its inception in 2008, foundation investments have distributed more than $58,000 to aid such as River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS, Lions Sight and Hearing Program, Bethel Volunteer Fire Department, Clover Area Assistance Center, Clover High scholarships and Hospice. Ways of gifting include cash, IRAs, 401Ks, marketable securities, wills, living trusts, annuities, life insurance and retirement plans. For more information, call 803-831-0911.
▪ Collecting bicycles: Lion Bob Goodell expanded on his grandson Nicholas Goodell’s project of gathering old bicycles, repairing them and getting them in the hands of children in need by getting the club involved. The Lions are looking for donations of bicycles, parts and accessories. Call 704-866-7363 to arrange pickup.
