▪ A new elementary/middle school for Indian Land students was ranked as the No. 1 priority for Lancaster County Schools.
▪ Tega Cay Police Chief John Short retired. Lt. Joe Gebbia was named acting chief
▪ Former Fort Mill Yellow Jacket and South Carolina Gamecock Ernest Dixon had an interception and sacked Panther quarterback Kerry Collins late in the game to preserve a New Orleans Saints victory over Carolina.
▪ Fort Mill Yellow Jackets Jason Honeycutt, Robert Mackey, DeWayne Lundy and Jeremiah Columbus were named to the All-Region 4 AAA football team.
1975
▪ Fort Mill’s Yellow Jackets defeated Wren 40-14 in the first round of the state AA football playoffs. The game was called with 1:21 left when a number of Wren players became quite unruly.
▪ A Fort Mill native, Lawrence O. Kitchen, was named president of the Lockheed Corp. in Burbank, Calif.
▪ Graham’s Used Cars, on White Street for 32 years, moved to a new location on Sutton Road, across from the Charlie Hope store.
▪ Airman William H. Epps Jr. was selected for technical training in the U.S. Air Force transportation field at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.
1955
▪ Among the names on the roster of the Yellow Jackets girls’ basketball team were Lavinia McCall, Brenda Whitesides, Gayle Potts, Sylvia Epps and Shirley Hucks
▪ A.O. Jones Sr. closed his Main Street grocery store and retired. Mr. Jones had operated Jones Grocery in the same building for 61 years.
1935
▪ M.B. Blackman, recently dismissed from the Fort Mill Police Department, was hired by the Pineville, N.C., Police Department.
▪ Substantial Thanksgiving donations were made by Fort Mill Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian churches to orphanages.
1915
▪ Due to a case of smallpox on Academy Street, Mayor B.E. Patterson requested a general vaccination of the residents of Fort Mill.
▪ Fort Mill’s first Chautauqua was to be a three-day affair sponsored by the local booster club.
