1995

▪ The Indian Land Warriors boys’ basketball team swept its season-opening double-header from its cross creek rivals, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets. The girls’ team opened with a 36-28 win followed by the boys’ 58-45 victory.

▪ The U.S. 521 Bypass, which took motorists around Pineville, N.C., opened. The new road connected Highway 521 with I-485.

▪ After 10 years of trying to make a landfill out of a 565-acre site at Indian Land’s northern border, Mecklenburg County approved the project.

▪ Jenna Bates of Fort Mill won the 16-19 age group in the women’s 10K class at the annual Springmaid Road Race in Fort Mill.

1975

▪ Fort Mill’s Yellow Jackets defeated the Chapin Eagles 40-14 in the second round of the state football playoffs. Chapin had won 30 consecutive games and was two-time defending state AA champions.

▪ A rash of robberies had taken place in Fort Mill, including an armed robbery of the 7-Eleven store on North White Street.

▪ Lynn Holcomb, Miss Fort Mill of 1975-76, received a check for $100 from the Tega Cay Property Owners Association.

▪ The Fort Mill News Stand, Fort Mill’s only complete book store, opened at 316 N. White St.

1955

▪ The Fort Mill Optimist Club entertained the Fort Mill High School football team at its annual banquet in the dining room of St. John’s Methodist Church. Guest speaker was “Big Bill” Ward of WBTV.

▪ A. O. Jones Jr., superintendent of Fort Mill Public Schools, attended a meeting of school superintendents in Miami., Fla.

1935

▪ A Fort Mill man appeared before Mayor B. E. Patterson on a drunk and disorderly charge. As punishment, he was banished from the town for six months.

▪ Town Council submitted a bid for the First National Bank building on upper Main Street to be used as a town hall and jail.

1915

▪ The Fort Mill Lumber Co. installed a modern grist mill at its plant west of the railroad tracks.

▪ Winthrop College decided to ask the Legislature for $100,000 to erect a new dormitory to house 250-300 girls
