Clover High anglers win Riley’s Cup on Lake Wylie

High school students across the Carolinas attended the second annual Life of Impact Leadership Experience on Nov. 20-22 at YMCA Camp Thunderbird.

Students participated in team building adventures, gain new friendships and mentorship by skilled outdoor professionals. Weekend activities included the Riley’s Cup High School Fishing Tournament on Nov. 21. The weigh-in was at Duke Pavilion. Elite Series Pro Britt Myers was guest speaker to begin the tournament.

Clover High School bass fishing teammates Tanner Maness and Britt Myers, both sophomores, finished in first place with 14.8 pounds and their big fish 5.6 pounds.

The duo also won Oct. 10 at the Palmetto Boat Center High School Tournament Trail on Lake Hartwell.

On Nov. 22, collegiate teams from North and South Carolina competed in the Collegiate Clash.

Throughout the weekend attendees also participated in a service project preparing packed meals for undernourished children in Nicaragua, and recreational activities such as archery, kayaking and zip lining.

The Life of Impact Leadership Experience and The Riley’s Cup are inspired by Riley’s Catch – an organization in memory of Riley Laymon, a bass fishing enthusiast and high school student who died in a truck accident in 2012. Riley’s love for fishing inspired him to propose and become an advocate for a high school bass fishing program in North Carolina.
