Clover High student among countywide art exhibit winners

The Arts Council of York County named winners of the York County High Schools Art Exhibit during the opening reception earlier this month for Vernon Grant’s “Oh What Fun” at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St.

Art teachers from seven York County High Schools, representing all four districts, selected works by 88 students. The students’ work is on display through Dec. 27 at Edmund Lewandowski Classroom Gallery.

The following students received awards for their artwork:

▪ Best of Show: “Entrance to the Past” by Kate Namowicz of Fort Mill High School. Teacher: Jessica Calloway.

▪ First place: The 11th Doctor by Anthony Parenti of Clover High School. Teacher: Chris Davis.

▪ Second place: The Joy of Beauty by Laura Breitkreutz of Northwestern High School. Teacher: Kim Grant.

▪ Third place: Lonely Skull by Madison Sojdak of Nation Ford High School. Teacher: Erin Mountain.

▪ Honorable Mention: Frederiksborg Castle by Emma Pittman of Nation Ford High School. Teacher: Alicia Bagley.

▪ Honorable Mention: My Morning with Bob by Miranda McAllister of Northwestern High School. Teacher: Sandy Queen.

▪ Honorable Mention: Phantom by Taylor Swanger of York Comprehensive High School. Teacher: Leslie Templeton.

▪ Honorable Mention: Green Bottle by Joshua Kellam of Fort Mill High School. Teacher: Kimberly Fragola.

▪ Honorable Mention: Mixed Emotions by Yassmin Garcia Rodriguez of Fort Mill High School. Teacher: Susan Miller.

Jack Bolin and Sandy Brindle of the Yorkville Artists’ Guild, and Dr. Bradley Sabelli of the Catawba River Art Guild served as jurors for the show. The York County High School Art Exhibit is coordinated by the Arts Council and the Catawba River Art Guild, and is sponsored by the Yorkville Artists’ Guild.
