2015: The year in review
It was a year of many firsts.
In 2015, Fort Mill elected its first female mayor and enacted its first impact fees. Nation Ford High School was first in the state of South Carolina in the annual Marching Band tournament and the township entered the craft beer age when Fort Mill’s first brewery opened. Fort Mill saw its first dog park open on the Anne Springs Close Greenway.
The township was first in roller coasters when the Fury 325 lifted off at Carowinds and the area’s first assisted living facility opened in Tega Cay.
It was a colorful year that included both drought and so much rain and humidity that we were still dodging mosquitoes in December. There were many triumphs and milestones and some controversies.
Typically this time of year we publish our annual Fort Mill 11 top newsmakers of the year. For 2015 we’re trying something a little different – the year in photos. And if anyone wants us to revive the Fort Mill 11 for 2016, send an email to mharrison@fortmilltimes.com, post or message on Facebook or tweet us @FortMillTimes.
