Residents can get a peak at the Mary Warner Mack Dog Park during an open house Jan. 16.

The park is 12 acres of open space, wooded trails and a lake for dogs of all sizes, said Denise Cubbedge, director of development for the greenway.

“Come out, bring your dog and test out the amenities,” she said.

The dog park, named for the late Mary Warner Mack, now features a new dog and people shelter and benches as well as an additional water station, Cubbedge said. She said the open house is a chance for nonmembers to test out its features, such as the unique off-leash forest and lake access.

“It’s a different experience for people,” she said.

Cubbedge said dog park members have formed a community.

“They all know each other,” she said. “There’s a social aspect to the membership of the dog park.”

The dog park has more than 300 members, Cubbedge said. Each membership allows up to four dogs.

“We’re very happy with the results,” she said. “We think it is one of the best dog parks in the country. We’re glad to be able to open the doors and have more folks to get to visit and check it out.”

During the open house, greenway staff will be on site to answer questions regarding dog park memberships, park rules and other concerns.

Dog park memberships can be added to existing greenway and Recreation Complex memberships with proof of current spaying/neutering and vaccinations. For more information, call 803-547-4575 or visit the Recreation Complex, 971 Tom Hall St. in Fort Mill.
