Boil water advisory on for small part of Tega Cay
A boil water advisory that followed a water main break Monday will stay in effect at least until Wednesday, city officials said today.
The advisory is just a precaution, Tega Cay Utilities Director Philip Jolley said.
Contractors replacing a storm drain accidentally hit and ruptured the water line at about 3 p.m. Monday, causing 23 homes on Palmyra Drive near the intersection of Bounty Lane to lose water service for about three hours, he said. The line is repaired and residents on those two blocks are advised to boil water for at least one minute before use until lab tests confirm the absence of harmful bacteria.
“Not that we think (there’s any danger), but we’re doing it as a precautionary measure since we lost total pressure in that area and it’s in accordance with DHEC standards,” Jolley said.
Test results are expected by sometime Wednesday, he said.
Jolley said signs are posted in the area and residents were notified via the city’s Code Red automated phone system about the advisory. It’s also posted on Tega Cay’s website. City water customers who live on Palmyra Drive Bounty Lane are the only ones who should boil their water while the advisory remains active, he said.
