Taco Bell eyes spring opening at Lake Wylie
Taco Bell is working toward a spring opening in Lake Wylie.
Plans submitted to the zoning board of appeals in York County are to open a Taco Bell at the Collett development site, off S.C. 49 and Carroll Cove Lane. Site plans show the main entrance in back of the restaurant away from the main highway.
The Mexican-style fast-food restaurant will be a little more than 2,000 square feet and include a drive-thru. Initially, the company will hire about 40 people. It’s the latest prototype, much like the one that opened recently on N.C. 49 in Steele Creek.
“It’ll look very similar,” said project manager Adam McCurry.
Taco Bell will be one of four businesses in the center. The restaurant will be at 311 Vesla Lane, a new road in the development.
“Most of our traffic will have to come from Carroll Cove Road,” McCurry said.
Typically stores open at 7 a.m. and don’t close until midnight or later.
“We will meet the demand,” McCurry said.
The company hopes commuter Charlotte traffic means strong sales.
“That looks like the breakfast side of the road,” McCurry said.
Taco Bell plans to close on the property in early February, with an estimated May opening. McCurry couldn’t comment on the remaining three parcels in the development.
Attempts to obtain comment from the developer were unsuccessful by press time Friday.
More requests
The Taco Bell decision isn’t the only Lake Wylie activity. Another board request Jan. 14 asked for a subdivision of 43 residential-zoned acres on Ormand Road into two parcels, at 31 and 12 acres. Another asked for a variance from the 50-foot Lake Wylie buffer on Baker Lane. Plans are to replace a mobile home with a new house, extending a driveway 15 feet, covering an existing boathouse and putting a pool where the mobile home and deck are now.
The county board voted in December to allow a public service use for a 170-foot cell tower on Windmill Lane. It also approved a lot size variance on Montague Road in Lake Wylie.
