▪ Rebecckah Hall, 6, of Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, was selected as a model for Toys R Us stores.
▪ Grading work began on Avery Lakes, an affordable housing community on Steele Road, Fort Mill.
1976
▪ The Fort Mill Chamber of Commerce, dormant for many months, was re-organized with George Ackerman as president.
▪ There were no surprises in Fort Mill’s biennial municipal election as there was no opposition to the six Democratic nominees. Lunsford McFadden was elected Mayor of Fort Mill.
▪ C. Michael Short, accountant and tax consultant, opened an office at 134 Confederate Street, Fort Mill.
▪ The employment of a detective by the Fort Mill Police Department was being delayed by the state not approving the grant needed for financing the hire.
1956
▪ The series “Old Timers of Fort Mill,” which ran at irregular intervals in the Times, featured 88-year-old J. Ben Patterson, who walked to downtown Fort Mill two or three times a week.
▪ Thomas K. Gaither and W. B. McFadden were named co-chairmen of the 1956 Fort Mill March of Dimes campaign.
1936
▪ Luther G. Patterson won his second turn as Mayor of Fort Mill with a total of 13 votes. L. F. Mills won election to town council with two votes.
▪ Ladson Massey of Fort Mill, student at Clemson College, was selected for an appointment to West Point.
1916
▪ W. M Carothers, former registrar of public statistics, stated that in 1915, there were 96 births and 54 deaths in Fort Mill Township.
▪ The three physicians of Fort Mill agreed to raise their prices. In-town visits would rise to $1.50, outside of the town limits, $2 and obstetrical cases, $15 and up.
