Allison Love announces York County Council run

Unofficially, Lake Wylie voters will have at least two York County Council candidates to choose from, but they won’t have to wait until fall to decide.

Allison Love, a lifelong county resident with 25 years in the Lake Wylie area, announced she will run for the District 2 seat now held by Bruce Henderson. Henderson said he won’t run to keep his seat.

Love planned to announce her candidacy at a local Republican women’s club meeting Jan. 22, but the meeting was postponed until Jan 29 due to ice and snow.

Love joins fellow Republican and neighbor Doug Meyer-Cuno, who announced plans to run last week.

Official candidate filing runs March 16-30.

Because Love and Meyer-Cuno represent the same party, voters will decide between them and any other Republican candidates in the June 14 primaries. A Republican winner could face a Democrat winner in the general election Nov. 8.

Love is a local business owner with 17 years experience. She represents District 2 on the county board of zoning appeals. She is a member of the county comprehensive land use committee. She has been vocal in recent months in favor of tighter development standards and less dense residential development around Lake Wylie.

She also worked for the past year to determine whether a historic grave site sat on property being developed for new homes in the Bonum Road area, near where she and Meyer-Cuno live.

Love sees herself as a “results-oriented candidate who believes in doing what is best York County residents.”

“I will make a stand on behalf of the people,” she said. “I am conservative and able to say no to uphold county ordinances.”

Love sees a challenge ahead of her. District 2 is one of seven seats, and she has seen past issues like a Lake Wylie overlay or tougher local building restrictions fail at the county level. Yet she sees continued efforts as important enough to serve.

“What got me involved was unmanaged growth,” she said.

Love has a campaign page set up on Facebook at “Allison Love for County Council District 2.”
