▪ The Fort Mill School District was exploring the possibility of establishing a Marine Corps JROTC program at Fort Mill High School.
▪ A 12-year-old with an air rifle shot at an Indian Land school bus, breaking a window and showering glass on two students.
▪ Sue Jones of Close Street, Fort Mill, was installed as president of the Fort Mill Care Center. Hugh Mullis was first vice-president.
▪ John Marks, a Fort Mill Middle School eighth-grader, was selected for a three-week student exchange program in Australia.
1976
▪ Major Mary Bailes, a Fort Mill native, received the Meritorious Service Medal as a United States Air Force nurse.
▪ Fort Mill’s new, 200,000-gallon water storage tank was rising amid the tombstones of Unity Cemetery.
▪ The Yellow Jackets of Fort Mill Junior High School remained undefeated in basketball with wins over York, Rawlinson Road and Clover. The junior Jackets were 6-0.
▪ Keith Epps, trombone, and Juan Mackey, bass horn, were selected for the 1975-1976 All-York County Band.
1956
▪ The Fort Mill High Yellow Jackets set a new school scoring record when they defeated Chester 80-59. Johnny Gibson netted 20 points for the local boys.
▪ Third-graders making the honor roll at Fort Mill Elementary School included Marcia McLin, Reba Powers, Gayle Perry, Joyce Collins, Michael Chambers, Terrie Hall and Crandall Close.
1936
▪ Fort Mill was in the midst of a frigid air mass. For more than a month, temperatures were mostly at or below freezing. Nims Lake was frozen over from bank to bank.
▪ The York County chain gang received two, 15-day recruits from Fort Mill, both having been convicted of drunkenness
1916
▪ S. W. Parks, Captain of the Fort Mill Military Organization, attended a meeting of the National Guard Association in Columbia.
▪ An opinion from the State Attorney General said that Mr. W. A. Roach could not hold the office of city clerk and serve on the Board of Aldermen simultaneously.
