Historic Brattonsville marks African-American journey in Carolina Piedmont
In honor of Black History month, “By Way of the Back Door” presents guided tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. pm each Saturday through February.
“By Way of the Back Door” 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the living history museum at Brattonsville will focus on three generations of slavery from 1780-1865. Reflecting on the lives of the enslaved from the American Revolution through and beyond the Civil War, tours will stop at Colonel Bratton’s house, slave cabins, Brick Kitchen and Homestead. The program’s narrative includes scholarly research and collective memories of descendants of Bratton slaves.
Historic Brattonsville will offer ongoing activities, including 18th century cooking and blacksmithing, throughout the day 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in addition to the special tours.
