Adults rediscover coloring books at Fort Mill Library

The York County Library hosted a coloring class for adults last week at the Fort Mill branch in Baxter Village. Donna Andrews, Employee Development and Programming manager for the York County library, facilitated the event.

“We set up these classes just for fun,” Andrews said.

“People think it’s funny, but it’s huge right now. What we’re seeing in the library literature and in general if you’re out shopping, adult coloring books are everywhere. It’s becoming a very popular thing to do. People think you leave behind your coloring skills when you’re in elementary school, but it really is a lot of fun.”

There’s even more to it than that.

“There are also some good relaxing health benefits to it, so a lot of libraries are offering it as a program,” Andrews said.

The adult coloring program will be offered at all the York County Library branches in February and March. The next scheduled coloring events are at the Lake Wylie library on Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. and at the York library on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m.

The York County libraries will be hosting a variety of programs and meet-ups for teens, kids and adults in the coming months. February highlights at the Fort Mill branch include three different adult book club meetings, weekly story times for kids from birth through age 5, a Valentine’s party for kids ages 6-8, Choc-O-Mania for kids ages 9-11, and the Chocolate Olympics for kids ages 11-17.
