Local winners in literary contest
Several local residents were winners in the Arts Council of York County’s 12th annual Literary Competition and the fourth annual Youth Literary Competition and were honored at a public reception and open mic at the Center for the Arts in Rock Hill.
The Annual Literary Competitions include two categories – short story and poetry. Each category was judged independently by jurors, Beth Pierce, Totty Wilkerson, and Michele Ramsey. Authors were eligible to enter both the short story and the poetry competition, and entries are eligible to win an award in each category.
Local winners in the adult poetry competition were Martha Robinson of Fort Mill, third place for “Music Recital” and Jane Janick of Fort Mill, honorable mention, for “Replay.”
Winners in the youth poetry competition were Charlotte Pollack of Fort Mill, second place for “Disney World”; Jackson Lemmonds of Fort Mill, second place for “The Unknown”; and Rachel Stevens of Fort Mill, honorable mention, for “Without a Helping Hand.”
Pollack won first place in the youth short story competition for “The Bloody Masquerade.” Lemmonds won second place for “Deep Violet” and Jordan Flachman of Fort Mill won third for “Lil Blue and Me.”
