1996

▪ Rochelle Bouler of Pelham Lane, Fort Mill, was crowned Miss Fort Mill High in the Fort Mill High School auditorium.

▪ Three Fort Mill Yellow Jacket football players signed with college teams. DeWayne Lundy signed with North Greenville, Jason Honeycutt with Liberty, and Robert Mackey with Winston-Salem State.

▪ Fort Mill’s basketball team won the Catawba River Middle School Conference Tournament Championship by defeating Clover 62-34 in the championship game.

▪ Richard Carter, Fort Mill School board member, was recognized by the South Carolina School Boards Association for 10 years of service on the local board.

1976

▪ The arrest of a 20-year-old man inside the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene sparked a storm of protests by church members.

▪ Harry Hallman, local businessman and member of Fort Mill City Council, and Mrs. Isabell Palmer, a veteran math teacher, received Distinguished Service Awards at the first annual Fort Mill Jaycees’ DSA banquet.

▪ Mike Hunsucker was named Fireman of the Year by the Flint Hill VFD. Jerry Chapman was named Junior Fireman of the year.

▪ The directors of the Fort Mill Chamber of Commerce met with George Ackerman, chairman of the Bicentennial Committee, to discuss plans for Fort Mill’s Bicentennial Celebration.

1956

▪ SM/1 Herbert Mauk, U.S.N., spoke to the boys of the junior and senior classes at Fort Mill High School on the importance of staying in school and graduating.

▪ Donald F. Vorreyer, principal of Fort Mill Central School, was elected president of the York County Teachers Association.

1936

▪ The Fort Mill Police force was increased to three regular officers with the employment of J. L. Talley as night policeman.

▪ A filling station operated by Culp Bros., which adjoined their grocery store and ice plant, was completely destroyed by fire.

1916

▪ Mr. Dewey Brackett and Miss Lillian Potts, a popular young couple of the Milfort mill village, were married at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Van Dawson Potts.

▪ Notable improvements were made to the interior of the Majestic Theatre, Main Street, Fort Mill, including an elevated floor and nicely papered walls.
