Lake Wylie group collecting signatures for sports park
Lake Wylie Athletic Association elected its largest board in its nine-year history at the annual meeting Jan. 31 at Oakridge Middle School.
Officers are president, Ron Domurat; vice president, Jeff Zazzaro; treasurer, Jim Gilkeson; secretary, Jeff Grayson. Commissioners are baseball, Ed Bailey; soccer, Kat Underwood; and basketball, Chris Touchstone. Members at large are public relations, Perry Johnston; safety, Casey Cronan; spirit wear, Andrea Drinkwalter; fields and grounds, Brent Zieverink; player agent, Mike Stiegerwald.
LWAA provides recreational sports for more than 1,000 players each year in baseball, basketball and soccer.
LWAA has volunteered to be the first organization to manage the proposed Lake Wylie SportsPlex. This complex will provide the families of Lake Wylie with a first-class sports complex to host tournaments and games for the LWAA Recreational Sports League.
The complex also features walking trails and other amenities that will be available to all residents.
Efforts are under way to secure petition signatures from 15 percent, or 2,700, of the registered voters in the 11 precincts surrounding the proposed SportsPlex to place a decision on the ballot in November.
LWAA and LW SportsPlex Committee will collect signatures from registered voters leaving polling places Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.
Petitions are at several locations: Lake Wylie Discount Liquors, Bagel Boat, Lake Wylie Dry Cleaners, Sweetwater, Lakeside Barbers, Allen Tate of Lake Wylie and Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce

LWAA soccer, baseball registration open
Registration is open for soccer and baseball through Feb. 20 with Lake Wylie Athletic Association.
Register online at lwsports.org. Arrangements can be made for payment by cash or check.
Lake Wylie golfers finish at 72
Final results from the Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball One-Day Tournament Jan. 27 at Pinehurst Country Club (Course No. 6) includes Lake Wylie golfers Harold Fisher and Mike Shively finishing 37-35-72 in the Super Senior 70 plus division.
Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club. The field is divided into divisions based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Division-Flight A, Flight B; Super Senior 65+ Division; Super Senior 70+ Division.

Couch to 5K program starts Feb. 29
