Love in the air: Nation Ford girl says yes to sky-high promposal
When Nation Ford High student Ashlyn Donald’s longtime sweetheart invited her to share a plane ride with him, she never dreamed it would turn out to be one of the most memorable moments of her life.
Jared Burns, of Townville, and Donald have been sweethearts all the way back to the second grade when Donald lived in Townville. Burns, a student at Pendleton High School, works as a chicken farmer and has a friend who owns a small plane.
The friend owed him a favor, Burns said, and Burns had an idea.
“Promposals” – or elaborate ways of asking a date to the prom – have soared in popularity in recent years.
Burns plowed the message “Prom?” on a field on his family’s farm in Townville, and asked Ashlyn if she’d like to take a ride with him and his parents.
“I didn’t know if (the message) was going to look good or not, but it turned out pretty good,” Burns said.
Donald looked out the window as they flew over the farm.
“I dropped my jaw, and was like, ‘What?!’” Donald said. The two hugged.
“She was real shocked,” Burns said. “She almost started crying.”
Donald said yes.
NaFo’s prom is April 23 and Pendleton High’s is April 30. The couple will be attending both.
“I’m so excited, it’s kind of overwhelming,” Donald said. “I’m debating whether I should get two dresses.”
The two have been on the news and on the radio in Burns’ hometown.
“People are loving it, goodness,” Donald said. “My friends, they’re all jealous. They’re like, ‘You’re so lucky.’”
And Burns has proudly set the bar sky-high.
“(Other guys) are going to have a tough time to top that,” he said.
