Lake Wylie Lions honor restaurant owner

Yem Huseyin, owner of Lake Wylie Pizza & Italian Restaurant, was honored by the River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club with a certificate of appreciation for his generosity in providing excellent food service at Lions charity events.

The inscription on his certificate reads: “Thank you for helping the River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club help others.”

The club was grateful for the pizzas the students of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind enjoyed when they performed at a club event.

He also was responsible for preparing a grouper dinner, sides included, and auctioned off to raise money. The fish were caught by local Lions Dick Lewis,Ted Mutashak and Gene Magnarina fishing in Florida, and the catch was donated to the club.

Author to speak to women’s group

River Hills Women’s Club will meet March 16 at River Hills Country Club.

Guest speaker is author Julie Szerbinski talking about her book, “The Survival Savvy Family: How to be your Best during the Absolute Worst” and how it came about.

The luncheon starts11:30 a.m. with an open cash bar with lunch at noon.

Silver Haired Legislature meeting March 16

The Catawba Council of the South Carolina Silver Haired Legislature will meet 11 a.m. March 16 at Lancaster County Council on Aging, 309 South Plantation Road, Lancaster.

The purposes of SCSHL is to identify issues, concerns and possible solutions for problems faced by South Carolina residents, with emphasis on senior citizens.

The group serves Chester, Lancaster, Union and York counties. The community is welcome to observe meetings.

Historical group meeting March 20

York County Genealogical & Historical Society will meet 3 p.m. March 20 at Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall St.

Scott Syfert of Charlotte will give an overview of local events leading to the American Revolution. His book, “The First American Declaration of Independence,” looks at the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (May 20, 1775).

Clover Rotary planning for pancake dinner

The Clover Rotary Club will serve the second annual pancake dinner 5-7 p.m. April 19 at First United Methodist Church, 124 Bethel St. for Clover High School scholarship and community projects.

The club is selling business card ads for the dinner placement at $40 by March 30.

Cost of dinner is $2 all you can eat.
