Christ the King Church, 13501 S. Tryon St., will open its free Community Clothing Closet 9 a.m.-noon March 19.

Church holding chili cook off March 19

Crowders Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 207 Crowders Creek Church Road, will hold a chili cook off 5-7 p.m. March 19 in the fellowship hall.

River Hills Community Church presents Easter Cantata

River Hills Community Church Chancel Choir with full orchestra, conducted by John Leon Lewis, will present the cantata "The Easter Story” at 10:45 a.m. March 20 in the church sanctuary, 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road.

The cantata recalls Jesus’ suffering, death, resurrection and exaltation to the right hand of God. The cantata helps relive the world-changing events that unfolded in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago with God’s love in every song.

Pastors Gayle Montgomery and Jason Bryant will narrate the Palm Sunday musical.

On Easter Sunday, March 27, the church will hold four worship services: 6:45 a.m. Sonrise at Camp Thunderbird; 8 a.m. sanctuary worship; 9:15 a.m. “Experience” Worship at Church Life Center; 10:45 a.m. sanctuary worship.

Good Sam UMC announces special services

Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Road, announces Easter celebrations.

▪ Palm Sunday Easter egg hunt will be held during both services, 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. March 20.

▪ Good Friday service is March 25. Prayer stations will be set up in the sanctuary 3:30-6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., there will be a viewing of the movie "Son of God" in the sanctuary. No nursery will be provided because of the length of the movie. All are welcome.

The Good Samaritan UM Women will have a Trash & Treasure Sale 7 a.m.-1 p.m. April 16. Sausage biscuits, hot dogs and baked goods will be for sale. Proceeds will provide mission money for women and children.

Good Samaritan UMC hosting small groups

Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Road, is holding several small groups open to the community.

▪ Walk with God: Walk Away the Pounds by Leslie Sansone at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. This group begins with a short devotional time, followed by walking inside, while using all muscle groups along with a video. This group starts slow, using the 1-mile video. This gentle and effective form of exercise will help tone the body, condition the heart, speed up metabolism and help fight aging.

▪ M&Ms meets 9:30 a.m. Mondays. This group is designed for women to strengthen faith studying “Life Lessons from Women in the Bible” by Rhonda Harrington Kelley. Child care is available.

Ministry sets up fundraiser page

New Life Purpose Ministries has set up a fundraiser web page to reach its goal to help recovery for people suffering substance abuse, or emotional and mental health disorders. The site is

“We have helped countless individuals in their quest for recovery, yet we have little to no financial support,” said the Rev. Ricou L. Williams, senior director and founder of New Life Purpose Ministries/Take 2 Enhancement Programs started in 2013.

The program includes spiritual enhancement, interpersonal relations, vocational training and assistance and programs for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The goal is reach $10,000 to provide shelter, food, clothing, transportation and medical assistance.

The ministry is now on the list for housing through Wells Fargo Community Urban Stabilization Program, designed to assist nonprofit agencies with donated properties.
