Baby chicks give Fort Mill students lesson in nature

Five of seven eggs hatched at Smart Kids Child Development Center in Fort Mill, with young chickens teaching 3-year-olds lessons on nature.

The most memorable? That chickens don’t wear diapers. But there were others.

“The students got to be able to play with them,” said teacher Jessica Fitzgibbon.

“They went on the carpet with them and the chicks got to come up to them. Unfortunately they can’t touch them yet because they’re still too young.”

After a few more days the chicks will head back to the farm in Clover that loaned the eggs to Smart Kids.
