County should take over water service
Editor’s note: This letter was addressed to Rep. Tommy Pope and Lake Wylie Pilot.
I am writing about the upcoming end of the franchise agreement that the county of York has with Carolina Water. To me, it seems to be an unusual arrangement. The company seems to be growing at the expense of the citizens of York County. What is even stranger is the fact that they are a middle man and not the actual provider.
As I understand it they do not want to give up the current agreement, and will do everything in their power o keep it status quo. Well I don’t blame them, I would probably do the same thing if I were in their position. But I am not. I am a York County resident on fixed income facing ever increasing water bills. My bill just increased though my usage was down. When I called the company they said it was because of the recent rate increase.
We have become a cash cow for Carolina Water; I for one believe the time has come for York County to handle their own water services. It’s profitable, if it wasn’t Carolina Water wouldn’t be here. Please put me on record as being a York County resident in favor of York County taking control of their own services. And please put me in contact with other like-minded York County citizens. The time to act is now.
