Tega Cay clubhouse restaurant wants name ideas

The city’s newest dining establishment is asking the public to help find its name.

John Weinbrenner is the new food and beverage provider at the city’s golf course clubhouse, formerly Casual Water. Weinbrenner operates nearby City Tavern. He will begin service at the clubhouse May 1.

“We have already begun some of the renovations,” said Charlie Funderburk, city manager. “We’ve already divided the private dining room from the main dining room.”

What the location doesn’t yet have is a name. The city suggested a contest in which residents make suggestions. Guests can submit them at City Tavern, in Tega Cay Village Plaza at the corner of Gold Hill Road and S.C. 160 West. and a winner will be chosen, then treated to a dinner for two.

Weinbrenner said residents told him they had a variety of reasons why the clubhouse dropped out of their regular rotation of dining options. But he hopes the new menu of steaks, seafood, sandwiches and more will change their minds.

“I hope you consider this part of your plans on a weekly basis,” he told residents at a March 21 Tega Cay City Council meeting.

The restaurant has a main dining room, bar and patio. It will be upscale casual. A private eating area will be converted into a family dining space, with televisions and other additions.

“There’s going to be options to make everyone happy,” Weinbrenner said.

Initially, just the bar will be open for lunch, though demand could change that decision. The full restaurant will be open for dinner. Price is another factor Weinbrenner hopes to strike off the list why people may think twice before visiting.

“We’re going to try to make it more affordable,” he said.
