Fort Mill girls defeat Rock Hill in track

The Fort Mill boys and girls track team split with Rock Hill in the Yellow Jackets’ final home meet of the season.

The girls won 73-68, while the boys fell 84-57. Fort Mill’s Jessica Brewer set another school record in the pole vault for the second straight week, this time clearing 11 feet, 3 inches to win the event and best the school record she set by an inch.

Victoria Scurlock won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles for Fort Mill in 19.14 and Anna Brewer won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.15. Brewer also won the 800-meters as well in 2:40.62.

The Jackets particularly excelled in the field events, getting several wins. Myra Tall won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 5 inches and the triple jump with three leaps for a total of 34 feet, 10 inches. Anika Meyers won both the discus and shot put events. Meyers won the discus with a throw of 98 feet, 4 inches and the shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 6 inches. Sharae Redmond won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.

On the boys’ side of things, Dominic Williams won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.44 and Cameron Smith won the 800-meters in 2:03.92. In the 400-meters run, Nigel Davis won in 54.41. He also won the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 4 inches and the triple jump with a total of 40 feet, 2.5 inches.

Fort Mill’s Ian Murray won the high jump, clearing six feet, and LaVardis Pearson won the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 1 inch.

The Jackets will return from spring break with a meet at rivals Nation Ford and then travel the week after to Northwestern.
