▪ Frustrated by a two-year delay in finding a suitable site for a $1 million library building for Fort Mill, York County imposed a June 1, 1996, deadline or the project faced cancellation.

▪ Jimmy Dawkins received the Silver Beaver Award and Scott McGuire received the Young American Award at a Palmetto Boy Scout Council recognition program.
▪ The Fort Mill School Board voted to spend $54,500 on 200 new uniforms for the Fort Mill High School Marching Band.

▪ Sherrie McKenzie was named Miss Yejacka at Fort Mill High School. Berta Bayne and Gigi Mills were runners-up.
▪ A Service of Dedication was held for the new fellowship-education building at Doby’s Bridge Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jim McGill was pastor.
▪ Patti Komarek won the spelling bee held at Fort Mill Junior High School. Claire Carswell was runner-up.
▪ Dannie Lou Vaughn was inducted into the North Carolina Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Chi Honor Society at Appalachian State University.
1956
▪ William R. Bradford Jr., editor and publisher of the Fort Mill Times, was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fort Mill School District.
▪ Willis Smart, a man of the Paradise Community, died as a result of a knife fight at Miller’s grocery.
1936
▪ The heaviest rainfall for this section in many years resulted in numerous bridges, including Doby’s Bridge, being washed away.
▪ The Rev. J. E. Brown, pastor of St. John’s Methodist Church, had charge of the devotional exercises at the high school and made a helpful address.
1916
▪ Names being tossed around for new county, with Rock Hill being the county seat, included Catawba and Jackson.
▪ The Rev. R. K. Timmons and family arrived from Bethel and took up residence in the Presbyterian Church manse.
