▪ The Fort Mill School Board went public and confirmed the probable site of a new east-side middle school would be next door to the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex.
▪ An investigation was underway at the Fort Mill Post Office. The Postmaster had been temporarily reassigned.
▪ The Fort Mill High School Lady Jackets soccer team, in only their second season, clinched the Region 4AAA soccer championship with a 4-1 victory over Dutch Fork.
▪ Springs Industries unveiled the fifth in a series of bronze sculpture by Bruno Lucchesi, “Planning for the Future,” on Mill Run.
1976
▪ Winners in the “Miss Mamerica” pageant included Miss Darlene (Danny) Funderburk, Miss Randi (Randy) Smith, Miss Willene (Willie) Ware and Miss Jeri Bea, (J. B.) Mills.
▪ Patricia Lane (Patty) Mills, a rising senior Mars Hill College, was elected president of Student Government Association.
▪ A 37-year-old Fort Mill man was shot and killed in Fort Lawn by a 43-year-old Fort Lawn woman.
▪ Springs Mills announced a wage increase for its 15,000 hourly-paid textile workers. The amount of the increase was not disclosed.
1956
▪ One of Fort Mill’s old landmarks, the Mills home on upper Main Street, was razed. A Kimbrell’s furniture store was to be built on the site.
▪ The Fort Mill Recreation Department announced an extensive summer program, including a day camp, for children ages 7-12.
1936
▪ Confederate Memorial Day services were held in the local graded school auditorium. The Rev. J. E. Brown of St. John’s Methodist Church addressed the gathering.
▪ P. A. Shumpert, who operated a grocery store and filling station in upper Fort Mill Township, was charged with storing and selling illegal whiskey.
1916
▪ Mr. A. M. Schultz, one of the proprietors of the Custom Shoe Shop, bought a half interest in the Royal Café. A number of improvements to the Royal were expected.
▪ W. O. Mattox, a farmer who lived on the place of J. D. Potts in the Pleasant Valley community, died at the age of 32.
