Indian Land Action Council hosts Lancaster County speakers
The Indian Land Action Council met at the Del Webb Library April 21 to elect a new slate of officers and discuss community issues.
The following officers were elected for 2016-17:
▪ Jane Tanner – president
▪ Phyllis Sklar – vice president
▪ John Delfausse – treasurer
▪ Gary Holland – secretary
▪ Pat Hillis – board member at-large
The outgoing officers were thanked for their service and a Transfer of the Gavel service was conducted. A special thank you was given to Wanda Rosa for her leadership and service as past president.
Jeff Catoe, director of Lancaster County Public Works and Roads, was the featured speaker. He updated the audience of approximately 60 residents about the long awaited Indian Land Convenience/Recycling Center to be built in the 521 Perimeter Commerce Park on Northfield Drive. He said the bids were scheduled to be released April 27 and it is projected to be completed during the second quarter of this year.
Roads were another topic Catoe addressed and he provided an extensive handout dealing with all matters on the roads in Lancaster County. His presentation is available on the ILAC website.
Lancaster County Councilmen Larry McCullough and Brian Carnes were on hand to answer road questions, including any possible increase in the $30 road maintenance fee in the near future. They both said they believe the current rate will remain unchanged.
Other business
▪ John Delfausse, committee chairman, had sign-up sheets available to match interests with action projects. He encouraged everyone to become active in an area they are passionate about. Tanner announced the formation of two new committees – Post Office for IL, and Landscaping to help beautify the gateways to Indian Land.
▪ The Planning Commission is to take action on a motion to rescind the recently approved Ansley Park preliminary plans due to lack of documentation during the Feb. 16 approval. Citizens were encouraged to take action and let their representatives hear from them.
▪ A motion was made and approved to allow the ILAC Board to set up an ILAC printing account with the local UPS store. This account would allow a reduced rate for printing.
▪ A motion was made and approved to allow Ben Levine and his Planning and Zoning Committee members, Holland and Waylon Wilson, the authority to speak on behalf of ILAC regarding matters impacting the citizens of Indian Land and Van Wyck before County Council, Planning Commission, Development Review Committee, and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The next ILAC meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 19.
