York County Council Dist. 2 candidates debate May 13
Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Women’s monthly brunch meeting will include a York County Council District 2 candidate debate at 10 a.m. May 13 at River Hills Country Club.
S.C. House Rep. Ralph Norman will moderate the debate between candidates Doug Meyer-Cuno and Allison Love.
In honor of Memorial Day, the VFW will be present a full Color Guard ceremony at the beginning of the session.

Silver Haired Legislature to meet
The Catawba Council of the South Carolina Silver Haired Legislature will meet at 10 a.m. May 11 at Highland Park Senior, 917 Standard St.
The group identifies issues, concerns and possible solutions for problems in South Carolina, with special emphasis on issues related to seniors.
The group represents Chester, Lancaster, Union and York counties. All are invited.

Author to speak at historical meeting May 15
York County Genealogical & Historical Society is meeting at 2:30 p.m. May 15 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2445 Highway 557.
Bob Inman, author of “Liberty Mountain,” a play based on the Battle of Kings Mountain, will be the speaker.
The annual meeting will include election of board members Rita Cater and Janelle Dixon and recognition of recipient of group’s 2016 scholarship.
Shag Club fiesta May 28
Lake Wylie Shag Club celebrates Cinco De Mayo Fiesta 8 p.m. May 28 at the Fort Mill Moose Lodge, 1676 Harris Road.
Ron Teague is the DJ. Admission is $3 for members, or $5 for guests.
Lake Wylie Shag Club offers shag lessons and line-dance lessons for $1 Tuesdays at the lodge.
Line-dance lessons begin at 6 p.m. Shag lessons begin 7:30 p.m. The dance floor opens for all dancers at 8 p.m.
The kitchen is open for food and drink purchases.
4-H holding summer camps
Clemson Extension Service in York County 4-H Youth Development is offering summer day camps for youth.
▪ 4-H Summer Science Day Camp, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 7-9, Glencairn Garden Learning Center, Rock Hill. For ages 9-13, this camp will be a general STEM day camp. The camp touches on all branches of science on the move: energy, environmental science, geospatial science, health science, plant and animal science, and robotics and engineering. Cost is $70. Limited to 20 campers.
▪ 4-H Beginners Camp Sew, 9 a.m.-noon June 20-23, York Extension Office. Learn the fundamentals of sewing and receive a starter kit. For ages 9-14. Cost is $40. Limited to eight campers.
Lions golf tournament June 20
The River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club will hold its annual charity golf tournament June 20 at River Hills Country Club.
Entry fees to the Captain’s Choice event are $100 per person, or $125 after May 23. Cost includes green fees, cart, lunch, beer and other refreshments, a cocktail party and barbecue dinner.
A bevy of team and individual prizes await the winners, including $300 in gift certificates per team from the pro-shop for first place finishers, a chance to win a boat or $20,000 cash for an ace on hole No. 11.
This year’s title sponsors are Eason Roofing and Moore & Van Allen law firm. Proceeds support the River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS, Foundation Fighting Blindness and other local charities.
