Weather better than bite at Lake Wylie tourney
The weather showed favor May 26 for the weekly fishing tournament, but bass fish were elusive.
“The weather gave us clear skies, warm air temperatures with a light breeze - perfect evening to go fishing,” said Erwin Gaston, co-organizer of Thursday Night Tournament Trail on Lake Wylie with Jeremy Cab.
There were 49 teams vying for the win.
“The only problem was the fish decided not to cooperate for most teams,” Gaston said. “But as in all tournaments, somebody figures out how to catch them.”
The team of Taylor Romero and Lee Endicott took first place with a weight of 15.59 pounds.
The father-son team of Brian and Cole Huskins finished second with 14.55 pounds and had the big fish of the night at 4.21 pounds.
The weekly tournament runs through Aug. 25, with launches and weigh-ins at Buster Boyd Access Area. The championship is Sept. 2-3.
Trail sponsors are Academy Sports and Kangaroo Express.
