▪ Announcement was made that the Olympic Flame Relay would pass through Fort Mill at 7:30 am on June 25. No ceremonies were announced for the event.
▪ Scott McGuire of Sutton Road, Fort Mill, received the Boy Scout Eagle Award in a ceremony at Unity Presbyterian Church.
▪ Indian Land pitcher Jessica Patterson, a sophomore, was named to the State Class A All-Star Softball Team.
▪ A team of Fort Mill High School students took second place in a Physics for the Technologies competition.
1976
▪ Cecilia Gardner was named valedictorian and Beth Mack and Johnny McFadden were co-valedictorians at Fort Mill Junior High School.
▪ Frank McCarthy, four-year resident of Tega Cay, was named Tega Cay’s Citizen of the Year for 1976.
▪ Joe E. Langley, 26, of 1006 Charlotte Highway, was the newest member of the Fort Mill Police Department.
▪ Karen Curtin, Fort Mill High School alumna, graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Tulane University in New Orleans.
1956
▪ At Fort Mill High School, Shelly Sutton was named Most Valuable Player in football, Johnny Adams in basketball and Wayne Godfrey in baseball.
▪ Honor Roll for the Year fourth graders at Fort Mill Elementary School included John Cousart, Freddie Blackwelder, Chipper Heemsoth, Linda Trull, Jean Hill, Nita Osborne and Ann Rogers Cantrell.
1936
▪ Godfrey Nims and Clara Parks were awarded the Eli Bailes Post, American Legion Medals for being the best all-round boy and girl in the seventh grade.
▪ Following the closing of the Leader Store on Main Street, J. Strause of Mooresville was to open a new store, The Economy Store, in the same location.
1916
▪ The first public meeting in Fort Mill in the interest of the proposed new county, “Catawba,” was held in the Masonic Hall.
▪ “Across The Pacific,” a film romance that carried one from Montana to the Philippine Islands, played at the Majestic.
