Girls on the Run in Tri County needs volunteer coaches

Girls on the Run Tri County is holding open registration for coaches to help with the fall season.

Coaches need to be at least 18 years old and pass a background check. Coaches of any athletic ability and gender are welcome to volunteer and high school students can assist teams as junior coaches.

Girls on the Run is a physical-activity based, positive youth development program that inspires girls in grades three through eight to adopt healthy habits while learning to become confident. The volunteer-led program brings together groups of eight to 15 girls for a 10-week season that encourages personal development, team building and connection to the community. The program currently serves girls in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and has had over one million total participants.

Volunteer coaching opportunities include head coaches and assistant coaches and require no prior experience.

“I love being a coach because I'm giving the girls a gift I wish someone had given me at their age: the ability to see themselves as beautiful, strong, and unique,” volunteer Gcoach Crystal Bradley said.

Teams meet twice a week in 75-90 minute practices throughout the season leading up to a 5K run.
