▪ Hundreds of spectators turned out in downtown Fort Mill to greet the Olympic Torch being carried through town by Anne Springs Close.

▪ Julia Brackett of Fort Mill was crowned Miss Senior South Carolina in a pageant held in Myrtle Beach.
▪ The Chinese men’s and women’s gymnastics teams were scheduled to hold public practices at Knights Castle.
1976
▪ Some 60 odd Fort Mill property owners let be known in no uncertain terms that they opposed a 102-unit apartment complex planned for Leonidas and Spratt streets.
▪ The drive to raise funds for the Fort Mill High School Marching Band’s trip to Philadelphia for the National Bicentennial Parade was successful.
▪ Palmer Freeman defeated Eugene Neal in a runoff election for the York County District 48 Seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
▪ Matt Martin and Melody Franks wrote the winning essays in a contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
1956
▪ L.T. Chambers was elected Fort Mill Magistrate over 32-year incumbent R. P. Harris by a 701-642 count in a runoff election.
▪ Tutt Wright’s hitting and Johnnie Broom’s pitching had Fort Mill Plant in first place in the men’s softball league with a 6-0 record.
1936
▪ Following numerous delays, work had been started on a sewer extension which would connect to businesses on Confederate Street.
▪ Efforts by Fort Mill Town Council to induce York County to help pay for a new jail in Fort Mill came to naught.
