400 boats expected at June 18 BFL tourney
The 2016 FLW Bass Fishing League tournament season continues June 18 for North Carolina Division anglers with an event on Lake Wylie.
Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively, in the one-day tournament.
Launch and weigh-in is at Buster Boyd Access Area.
Lake Wylie is expected to produce sizable limits, with anglers likely concentrating on bass that are active on bluegill beds using shaky-head-rigged worms and topwater baits. Other competitors may opt for using swimbaits, jigs and deep-running crankbaits to catch bass on offshore structure.
The winner of this event will likely need a five-bass limit weighing 17 pounds.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 50 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
