Great night but short on bites on Lake Wylie
It was a beautiful summer night, but the fish weren’t biting on Lake Wylie.
“By blast off time the air temperature had dropped into the lower 80s with a light breeze. The night was setting up for some really good fishing,” said Erwin Gaston, co-organizer of the Thursday Night Tournament Trail. “One problem, nobody told the fish.”
Only 10 of 37 teams brought fish to the weigh in at Buster Boyd Access Area.
“That is known as a tough night of fishing,” Gston said.
Ed and Eddie Williams figured it out, though. They brough in five bass weighing 13.63 pounds to take the top spot. They also had the big fish of the night at 4.71 pounds.
Chris Dover and Robert Fowler finished second with 12.18 pounds, followed by Josh Featherstone and Adam Locklear with 11.78 pounds.
The weekly tournament runs through Aug. 25, with launch and weigh-in at Buster Boyd Access Area. The championship is Sept. 2-3.
Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express and Sparks Grading.
