1996
▪ Doby’s Bridge Presbyterian Church gave Dr. and Mrs. J. H. McGill a trip to England and Scotland and Riverview Presbyterian Church gave them a new truck on Dr. McGill’s retirement as minister of both churches.
▪ Fort Mill Town Council took a big step toward a half-million-dollar project that would improve the appearance of the entrance to the town from the west side.
▪ At least five of Riverview Volunteer Fire Department’s most experienced firefighters turned in their gear following an election of new officers.
▪ Henry Bryant, 25-year veteran firefighter, was hired as a full-time fireman for Fort Mill’s fire department replacing Robert Thompson.
1976
▪ Fort Mill residents and band supporters were disappointed that that the TV networks did not show the Fort Mill High School Band marching in the Bicentennial Parade in Philadelphia.
▪ Ed Bost was the winner of the beard growing contest sponsored by the Fort Mill Jaycees as part of the Bicentennial celebration. Waylon Helms, Bobby Thrower and Gene Rogers also participated.
▪ Julia Buchanan, Lisa Buchanan and Doug Chapman were winners in the bike ride sponsored by the Fort Mill Jaycee-ettes as part of the Bicentennial celebration.
▪ Playing at the Pix in Rock Hill was “The Outlaw Josey Wales,” the Rocking Chair Cinema featured “The Omen” and the Ft. Roc Drive-in was showing “Lipstick.”
1956
▪ Fort Mill’s new and unique skating rink, located on the grounds of Fort Mill High School, officially opened for public skating with no charge.
▪ Jackie Bayne went five-for-five and Donnie Sain was four-for-four in leading the undefeated Pilot team to a 20-1 win over Fort Mill Plant in midget baseball.
1936
▪ Miss Kathleen Bradford of Chester and Miss Clare Grambling of Orangeburg were elected teachers for the Fort Mill Grammar school.
▪ The Fort Mill entry in the Springs Textile Baseball league went outside the league splitting a double-header with Lance Packing Co. of Charlotte. The locals lost 12-7 and won 15-12.
