Letters to the editor: Add tennis to Lake Wylie park plan; vote yes for park

Add tennis courts in park plan

I am pleased that the plans for the proposed sports complex are moving forward. I wish though that tennis courts had been a part of the overall plan. Tennis courts could be used year round, don't require two teams to play, just two or four people. There are no public courts available nearby and hard surface tennis courts require a lot less maintenance than soccer or baseball fields. I understand part of the reason for the soccer and baseball fields is to attract tournaments to qualify for the hospitality tax, but tennis courts could also be set up to attract tournaments. The city I lived in California had four tennis complexes, three of which had resident tennis pros to schedule court time, give tennis lessons, and run tournaments. Two of the complexes only had four courts, one had 10 courts, and they were full every evening and weekend. During the summer there were tennis camps for the kids. I believe the tennis complex is Rock Hill is set up similarly. Hopefully, they will take this under consideration.

Please, vote for the park

I am 10 years old, and I have lived in Lake Wylie for eight years. I really want a park in lake Wylie. Here are some reasons why, I have nothing to do because none of my friends can hang out. One reason is I want some swings to go and play on. I would also like to take a walk or go and ride my bike on the trail. I really like going on picnics as well. Can you please tell all the adults to vote for the park in November.
