Fish in hiding from summer’s heat on Lake Wylie
It was another scorching July night with some heated fishing on Lake Wylie during the Thursday Night Tournament Trail last week.
“I saw an egret wiping sweat from her eyes,” tournament co-organizer Erwin Gaston joked about the heat.
“We had 37 boats take to the water and the good news was most caught fish, but the bad news was all the fish are small,” Gaston said. “The big fish have gone into hiding.”
Travis Young and Chris Carnes had five fish that tipped the scale at 11.44 pounds.
Second place went to Larry Fleeman and Greg Pope with a weight of 11.03 pounds. Robert Fowler and Chris Dover finished third with 10.86 pounds.
The big fish of the night weighed 3.68 pounds and was brought in by the team of Todd Sosebee and Steve Postell.
The weekly tournament runs through Aug. 25, with launch and weigh-ins at Buster Boyd Access Area. The championship is Sept. 2-3.
Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express and Sparks Grading.
