Warm water yields light weights on tournament scales at Lake Wylie

The dog days of summer have arrived.

“The fish have quit biting. This is evident when only 11 teams out of 34 weighed their fish,” said Erwin Gaston, co-organizer of the Thursday Night Tournament Trail. “The water temperature throughout the lake is registering from the low 90s and up. This makes for tough fishing.”

Bucky Helms and Steve Addington were able to put together a five fish limit July 28 that tipped the scale at 10.94 pounds.

Second place went to the team of Robert Fowler and Chris Dover with a weight of 10.16 pounds.

The big fish of the night weighed t 3.87 pounds by Zach Stoupe and David Golding.

The weekly tournament runs through Aug. 25, with launch and weigh-ins at Buster Boyd Access Area. The championship is Sept. 2-3.

Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express, Sparks Grading and Koyote Fishing Tackle.
