Lake Wylie soccer players compete for Youth World Cup
Two Lake Wylie soccer players found success playing for the Global Premier Soccer U.S. National team at the Youth World Cup, bringing home bronze.
Samantha Wolf and Alondra Nieves, both rising eighth graders who played for last season’s 20-0 Clover High School girls junior varsity teams, traveled to Sweden with the national team to compete against 48 teams from nine countries.
Although dominating almost every team they played winning one friendly and six straight tournament games, they found trouble in the semifinals. The team suffered a red card midway through the first half and lost one player. The team lost the match 2-0.
Wolf is the daughter of Dan and Peggy Wolf. Nieves is the daughter of Juan and Mara Nieves.
