Letter to the editor: York County, cut middle man out

Cut out middle man

Information from Circle of Blue water Pricing Survey says that the average water bill for a family of 4 is $45 a month. On the ChaCha website, it’s $30-$40.00/month. I have lived in Lake Wylie for eight years and have never heard of any water bills even close to being that low. Rock Hill charges $8.66/per 1000 gallons, and $8.66/per 1000 gallons for waste water treatment. If I lived in Rock Hill, my last bill (for 2,010 gallons) would have been closer to $40.00.

Instead with the same usage (and this is for a family of two), Carolina Water charges $6.67/per 1000 gallons, plus $13.41 distribution usage and $52.93 wastewater collection. This means I wind up with a bill for $81.71. Something is clearly wrong with this picture, especially since the water originates in Rock Hill. Water is on track to becoming the highest utility bill in Lake Wylie. This severely impacting large families and people on fixed incomes.

Clearly Lake Wylie can do without this expensive middle man, and I hope that you and the York County council feel the same way.

Count V. Smith, Lake Wylie
