Food truck rally to thank first responders
This one’s for you, first responders.
The city of Tega Cay’s next food truck rally, scheduled for Saturday, is dedicated to First responders – law enforcement, firefighting and EMT personnel – in appreciation of their service. First responders will be given special discounts from the more than half a dozen food trucks that will be at Runde Field Saturday evening and will get discount beverages as well.
“With the current climate in mind, we thought it would be great to have a public safety appreciation night,” said Joey Blethen, the city’s parks and recreation director, referring to a summer filled with news from around the country about negative attitudes and violence aimed at police.
“Every time you turn on the news, it’s something,” Blethen said.
“We invited all the police chiefs from around York County, including at Winthrop University, and we’re going to have a special ceremony for them before the concert. We encourage all officers on the beat, all firefighters, all our first responders, to join us. We hope everyone comes.”
Saturday’s rally is not just for first responders, by the way; Everyone is invited. Live music will be provided by Sonic Rewind, which specializes in classic rock covers. DJ Tim Brown will provide the music before the band takes the stage at 7 p.m.
Food trucks include All-Star Cafe, Smax Grill, The Plated Palette, Maki Taco, Cheese to the Mac, Gourmet Goombahs, Spoon's BBQ, Pelican's SnoBalls and Papa John's. Beer and wine will also be available for sale by The SC Shore Club. There will be a kids area with bounce castles for all ages.
Parking at Runde Field or the lower tennis courts a short walk away. Overflow parking is at Turner Field, where free park and ride shuttle buses will be running all evening.
Admission is free, but bring cash or plastic for food and beverages. No BYOB, grills or dogs allowed at this event.
