Jackets win golfing dual with Nation Ford

The Fort Mill girls’ golf team toppled Nation Ford in their first match-up this season between the rivals on the links.

The Jackets’ were led by a 46 from Lilly Smith as they shot a 196 as a team, besting Nation Ford’s 209 in their match held at Fort Mill Golf Club. Nation Ford’s Zoe Bowers took the medalist position with a low round 44 to lead all scorers.

For the Jackets and following the lead of Smith, Fort Mill’s Amelia Majcina shot a 47, followed by a 48 from Alexia Van Zanten and a 55 from Ashley Babinchak. Following up on Bowers 44, was a 51 from Amber Bellamy and rounds of 57 from Felcity Shackleford and Hannah Beckner.

Falcons rebound

Nation Ford was able to bounce back soon after its match with Fort Mill and handily beat Rock Hill at Springfield Golf Club 191-212.

Bowers again led the Falcons with a 43, while sub-50 rounds came from Shackleford, who posted a 47 and James, who shot a 48, aided Nation Ford in the win. Bellamy finished the scoring for the Falcons with a 53.

Nation Ford and Rock Hill are scheduled to play each other again this week at Waterford Golf Club and then nearly 10 days after that, the Falcons will host both Rock Hill and Fort Mill in a tree-way match at Springfield.

For Fort Mill, the Jackets will travel to York to play the Cougars, before hosting Rock Hill the week after at Fort Mill Golf Club.
