Fort Mill golf team beats Rock Hill, Nation Ford
The Fort Mill girls golf team beat Rock Hill twice recently and threw in a victory of rival Nation Ford High as well.
Fort Mill beat Rock Hill 180-214 in a head-to-head match at Fort Mill Golf Club and then beat both Rock Hill and Nation Ford in a three-way match at Springfield with the Jackets shooting 194, compared to Rock Hill’s 206 and the Falcons’ 208.
In the first meeting with Rock Hill at Fort Mill Golf Club, the Jackets were led by Lillie Smith, who shot a 40 to lead all golfers. Alexia Van Zanten shot a 44 and Ashley Babinchak shot a 46 as well for Fort Mill.
Amelia Majcina shot a 50 to finish off scoring for the Jackets.
At Springfield, all three teams needed to show a good performance on the course, which will host the Region IV-5A tournament Oct. 10. Fort Mill was again led by Smith, who shot a 44, but was followed up this time by Alex Quinn’s 48. Van Zanten shot a 50 and Babinchak finished with a 54. Nation Ford had the low round medalist in the match with Zoe Bowers shooting a 40. Her score was followed with a 53 from Amber Bellamy and a 57 from Felicity Shackleford. Logan James finished the scoring for Nation Ford with a 58.
Up next for Fort Mill are matches at Rock Hill and another match at Springfield with Nation Ford and Northwestern before heading into the region tournament next week. The Falcons have just the three-way match against Fort Mill and Northwestern this week as they prepare for the region tournament as well.
