Fort Mill claims local superiority at the Greenway
The Fort Mill boys’ and girls’ cross country teams beat rivals Nation Ford High in their only head-to-head meeting of the season at the Anne Springs Close Greenway before heading into the York County Meet this week.
The Jackets girls’ squad won handily 18-45 as they took four of the top five spots. Fort Mill was led by Abigail Dawson, who won in 21:58 over the 3.1 mile course. Mia Davis was second at 22:20, while Nation Ford’s Anna Hardymon led the Falcons coming in third overall at 22:42.
Fort Mill’s Sydney George came in fourth overall, but was the third Yellow Jackets runner in at 22:58 with Regan Hodge coming in right behind her at 23:08 in fifth overall. Rounding out the scoring for Fort Mill was Meagan Allen in 23:10 who finished sixth.
For Nation Ford, Addy Rogers and Cate Tedford finished 10th and 11th with times of 24:07 and 24:17, respectively. Jordan Wright finished 14th in 25:29 and Mari Hudson came in 15th for Nation Ford in 25:34 as well.
In the boy’s race, Fort Mill won 22-35 in a little bit closer competition as the top four spots were split between the two schools. Nicholas Kilbarger won the race for Fort Mill in 18:28 and Anthony Frattaroli was a close second for Nation Ford in 19:07. The Jackets’ Dane Dobleske finished third, tied with Frattaroli for the same time of 19:07, while Thomas Windell for Nation Ford was fourth just three seconds behind the pair at 19:10.
Fort Mill’s Ethan Smith was fifth overall in 19:17 followed by teammate Harrison McLeland in sixth in 19:30. The Jackets’ Thomas Long rounded out the scoring in seventh for Fort Mill in 19:32.
Nation Ford’s Ryan Woods was eighth in 19:47 and teammates Josh Holcombe and Jake Hill were 10th and 11th respectively in 19:55 and 19:57.
Both schools will now turn their attention to the York County meet held this week at Northwestern High School, before again competing against each other in the Region IV meet held at Clover Oct. 19.
