Falcons sweep Gaffney in track meet
It was a good way to enter spring break, said Nation Ford boys’ track coach Chris Ross.
The Falcons swept Gaffney with the boys’ team winning 75-65 and the girls’ winning 71-47.
“It’s still early, but it’s nice to have a win going into the break,” Ross said.
Nation Ford boys won 10 events against Gaffney. In the field events, senior Jake Early won the discus throw with a distance of 112 feet, .8 inches, and junior Miles Cargile-Frazier won the shot put throw with a toss of 40 feet, 3.5 inches. Senior Jake Storms won the pole vault, clearing 8 feet.
In the track events, Nation Ford boys also had their share of winners. The boys’ team won the 4x800 meter relay. Senior Will Manning won the 1,600-meter in 4:57 and junior Tyree Chaplin won the 100-meters in 11.4 seconds and the 400-meters in 52.4 seconds. Junior Marian Stallings won the 200-meters in 23.1 seconds. Freshman Evan Welch won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.5.
Lady Falcons head coach Roderick Land is optimistic about where things are heading.
“I am happy with the results,” he said. “I am happy with the progress we are making.”
Junior Megan Gallagher won the pole vault clearing 8 feet. Sophomore Chyna Crawford won the discus throw with a toss of 87 feet, .8 inches and eighth-grader Alayna Martin won the long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 5 inches.
In the track events, the Lady Falcons won the 4x800 meters and the 4x400 meters. Senior Tierra Collins won the 100-meter hurdles in 20.5 seconds and sophomore Anna Hardymon won the 1,600-meters in 5:44 and the 800-meters in 2:43. Senior Emily Wyndham won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:20.2.
Up next for the Nation Ford is the Taco Bell Classic in Columbia April 10-11 and a meet at Fort Mill April 15.
