Fort Mill sent 7 to region wrestling finals. 3 won titles. Rock Hill schools won 10

Despite Rock Hill-based schools leading the pack in individual titles, host Fort Mill High was able to emerge from the Region IV-5A wrestling tournament with three champions.

Fort Mill’s title winners are Ethan Johnson (106), Jake Hart (152) and Jack Kelley (220). Rock Hill led the tournament with six region champions and Northwestern was a surprising second with four champs. Clover had one region champion in Ryan Jones at 138 pounds. One of Nation Ford’s wrestlers made the finals and several placed in the tournament.

The Yellow Jackets also had four other wrestlers make it to the finals and finish second. Fort Mill had two third place finishers and two fourth place finishers. Although none of its wrestlers won a championship, Nation Ford did have a second place finisher in Dax Stegall at 113 pounds.

In the finals at 106 pounds, Johnson beat Clover’s Dorian Brown by tech fall 16-1. At 152, Hart won by a 12-4 major decision over Northwestern’s Kadarius Davis. Fort Mill’s final region champion came at 220 pounds, when Kelley beat Clover’s Keith Collins 3-1.

Fort Mill’s Jacob Sturgeon finished second at 120 after losing a close, 6-5 match to Rock Hill’s Danny Love. Other second place finishers for the Jackets included Joseph Banny at 132 pounds, Josh Cizmadia at 145 and Dylan Honaker at 160.

Those Jackets wrestlers winning the consolation bracket in their weight class and finishing third were Aubrey Schaffer at 170 pounds and Yousseff Kenner at 182. Fort Mill had two fourth place finishers in Sebastian Colon at 113 and Adam Biehl at 126.

Nation Ford had several wrestlers finish in third and fourth place as well. Three wrestlers finished third: Solomon Moore at 113 pounds, Dylan Tindall at 126 and Joshua Paxtor at 138. The Falcons also had three wrestlers finish fourth: Kyle DeLeon at 132 pounds, Jacob Moore at 145 and Daniel Lopez at 182.

UP NEXT

All these wrestlers and their teams will head to the Upper State tournament Feb. 16-17 at Laurens High. The Jackets will begin the 5A playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 3.
