Nation Ford looking for new baseball coach
Nation Ford High is looking for a new baseball coach after former head coach Mike Matkovich stepped down last month.
Matkovich resigned near the July 4 holiday “to pursue administrative jobs and spend more time with family,” according to Falcons’ Athletic Director Brian Turner.
The Fort Mill School District has been advertising for the job opening since July 6.
Turner said he was still taking applications through last week and hopes to start interview potential candidates this week. Turner said he hopes to have someone hired by the start of school, which is Monday, Aug. 17.
Matkovich has a degree in administration and came to the Fort Mill School District from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District, where he was a teacher and coach. Multiple calls to Matkovich were not returned.
Matkovich led Nation Ford for three seasons and took over for Dell Corley, who is now the head coach at Rock Hill High. Matkovich was 54-28 in his three seasons as varsity baseball coach at Nation Ford.
He led the Falcons to District finals during the playoffs in his first two seasons and went 20-8 in his first season, which was his best year of the three seasons at the helm.
