Football schedules outline tough season ahead for Fort Mill, Nation Ford
Looking at both Fort Mill and Nation Ford’s football schedules, one thing glaring back at you is this: Things won’t be easy this season for either team.
Fort Mill’s schedule hasn’t really changed from last year. The Yellow Jackets will open the season against White Knoll on the road at River Bluff High School Thursday, Aug. 20.
After the season opener, the Jackets hit the road against Lugoff-Elgin, before returning home for its first home game Sept. 4 against Greenville. Fort Mill then heads back down to River Bluff to actually play the Gators on the road before closing its non-region schedule out against West Florence at home Sept. 18.
Fort Mill opens Region III play at Northwestern the next week, before hosting homecoming Oct. 2 against Clover. The Jackets will then host rivals Nation Ford on Oct. 9, before hitting the road for two weeks against Rock Hill and York. They will finish the regular season at home Oct. 30 against Gaffney, and like last year, their bye week will come at the end of the regular season Nov. 6.
“There are no breaks,” Fort Mill head coach Ed Susi said.
“Our kids know that. Our region is one of the strongest ones out there. A couple teams that play us have two weeks to prepare for us, but I didn’t have that luxury. That is an advantage.”
Changes for NaFo
Nation Ford’s schedule changes some this year as it hosts South Pointe to open the season instead of Forestview, which it has played every year since the school opened in 2007.
“It’s a good game for both our programs,” Falcons head coach Michael Allen said. “We hope to carry it on for years to come.”
South Pointe will come to Nation Ford Aug. 21 for the season opener. From there it will host Boiling Springs and Lugoff-Elgin in back-to-back weeks, before hitting the road for the first time traveling to Greenville on Sept. 11.
However, the Greenville game sets off a four-game road trip for the Falcons culminating with a small road trip to Bob Jones Stadium to play Fort Mill Oct. 9.
After the Greenville game, Nation Ford will go to Ridge View to round out the non-region schedule before opening up Region III play at Gaffney Sept. 25. The Falcons will then have two weeks to prepare for their rivalry game with Fort Mill as thebye week falls on Oct. 2.
After its rivalry game, Nation Ford will host York at home before hitting the road to Northwestern for the last road game of the regular season. The Falcons will finish out the regular season with games at home against Clover and Rock Hill.
