Falcons beat York, fall to rival Jackets

The Nation Ford girls’ tennis team dropped one of two matches last week, but improved to 3-2 on the young season.

Nation Ford beat York 4-1, but fell to Fort Mill 6-1 during the week.

Against York, the match was shortened due to lightning, but the Lady Falcons still pulled off a win. Winning for Nation Ford was No. 1 singles Jordan Sawyer 4-6, 6-3, 10-1 in a third set tiebreaker.

The rest of the Lady Falcons wins came in straight sets as No 2 singles Darby Trull and No. 3 singles Megan Gallagher both won 6-0, 6-0.

No. 4 singles Cassidy Ford won 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets as well, with Meredith Blumenfeld and Rachel Denny winning 8-6, 4-1 in the only doubles match played when the match was called for lightning.

Against rivals Fort Mill, the Lady Falcons lost 6-1 with the only winner coming in No. 3 singles as Gallagher beat Shreya Katti 6-1, 7-5.

Winning for Fort Mill in the match was No. 1 singles Elizabeth Fitzgerald 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 singles Rachel Brooks 6-1, 6-4; No. 4 singles Reagan Paff 6-3, 6-0; and No. 5 singles Ellie Prain 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Fitzgerald and Brooks beat Jordan Sawyer and Darby Trull in No. 1 doubles 8-1 and Abigail Thibodeau and Jessica Brewer for Fort Mill beat Blumenfeld and Denney 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.
